Toyota Supra and Toyota Supra Turbo Review

Toyota Supra has been termed as one of the most memorable and incredible cars ever seen on the silver screen. This sports car has crossed the block and it has now entered to a new collection.

Toyota Supra- The Movie Car
The original Toyota Supra which was driven by Paul Walker in the actual move, The Fast and the Furious was sold in the Mecum Auction and it was sold at price that was even higher than its actual price.

It was the 1993 Toyota Supra model that featured in the final race scene in the movie. The car had 2JZ-GE 3 liter inline-6 engine and it had the hp of 220. An estimate was made that this car would be sold between $150 and $200,000 and this estimate was somewhat correct. It was sold on May 16 at the price of $185,000.

As this was merely used a stunt car for taking exterior driving shots, the drivetrain of the car was superior but the interior was not quite happening. The racing seats were upgraded, the steering wheel from Sparco was added but there was nothing more exceptional inside apart from the fuel cell and the roll cage. The gauges of the car are also straightforward, and by now, the upholstery is almost no good. The door panels were created from sheet metal.

There were other visible flaws too for example the twin Holley performance nitrous bottles that were added at the back were clearly visible, they weren’t really plumbed into the car’s engine. However, there were plenty of other recognizable things about the car that overshadow these flaws such as the body kit, the APR rear wing, the wheels and not to forget the graphics on the body of the car. Plus, it was the car that was actually driven by Paul Walker himself in the movie; it had a large sentimental value. Therefore, there was a lot of crowd there at the auction to bid and buy this exceptional sports car. There is no doubt that this car would be getting some serious bidding.

Background history of Toyota Supra
Let’s take a look back at the history of the Supra and its new generation models…
Supra became even more demanding when it was seen in the movie. It is one of the exotic cars that are available for sale. Many people were there at the auction to buy the actual car driven by Paul Walker and the bidding was certainly quite fierce.

The first ever Supra released by Toyota was just so heavy as it was capable of producing 110 hp. Ever since the year 1979, Toyota Supra has made its own family tree. By now, the 4th generation Supra is out and it has parts similar to that of Celica and some from Ferrari F40 too.
The 1993 Supra Turbo was one of the most cooking models. The shape of the grille, the headlamps which are trapezoidal and the colossal brakes, these are inherited from F40. The rear wing which seems to be unfastened is also one striking feature of the car.

Engine details
Now the question is, what’s going to be under the hood of Supra? It will come with 3 liter inline-6 engine which will be capable of producing 220 hp at 5800 rpm. Two turbos are strapped to the starboard flank of the iron block because of which an additional 100 hp is produced with a torque of 315 pound feet. This is even more than the torque of the twin turbo produced by Nissan 300ZX.

The turbos there in Supra are sequential. The small one is capable of working at 2500 rpm. On the other hand, the big brother is capable of thrusting at 4500 rpm. Together, they are capable of producing hayfield uppercut feel. Supra has no trouble in painting black stripes on the rear Bridgestone. It is going to produce a controlled steer and mid turns. The traction level is impressive too.

Platform options
Both Supra and Supra Turbo have the similar modified Lexus SC300 platform which has been reduced by 5.5 inches plus there is coil over shocks at the corners. The length of the new generation supra is 4.2 inches. Turbo has the Potenza REO20 of 17 inches mounted on its rear and the wheels are 9.5 inches wide. There are no giveaways or special badges that can differentiate the wheels of Supra from Supra Turbo. The buyers have the option of choosing the huge rear wing for Turbo.

Price
Some say that the success of this car was solely because of its body design and styling. The supra costs about $36,000 whereas the Turbo costs about $40,000. Both the cars have the best interiors, safety features, styling, upholstery, infotainment and entertainment system.
People have still a lot of sentimental feelings with Supra therefore many Paul Walker fans would like to buy the Supra anyways.
